The Friends of Waddow

Without Friends of Waddow, Waddow would be a Training and Activity Centre without:
  •          A zip wire Three adults discussing outside Waddow
  •          A Jacob’s Ladder
  •          Canoes
  •          A bouldering wall / the opportunity to climb/abseil on a natural crag
  •          A Tall Tree climb
  •          A low ropes course
  •          A crate tower challenge
  •          Archery
  •          Grass sledging
  •          The Cave
  •          The Bubble
  •          Dining room furniture
  •          Projectors and screens in the training rooms
  •          And more, much more.

Yes, that’s right. These are just a few of the things Friends of Waddow have bought or contributed to over the last four decades. But Girlguiding doesn’t stand still and there’s still so much more that Waddow and Friends of Waddow would like to do. With your help we can continue to ensure that Waddow remains in line with the needs and expectations of all young members, Leaders, Trefoil Guild members, partners, friends and colleagues.

You can join as an individual for as little as £12 per year (£30 per year for a group) or as a life member for a one-off payment of £250.

Your subscription helps to develop activities, residential and training facilities - in fact, the whole estate. As a Friend, you will receive an annual newsletter keeping you abreast of developments across the site, together with the opportunity to attend the Friends of Waddow AGM weekend held in July. Members are also given the opportunity to provide practical support through our Working weeks in March and September.

You don’t have to be a member of Girlguiding to join. We accept applications from school groups, youth groups, Scouting members, businesses – anyone who has enjoyed spending time in the beautiful surroundings of Waddow Hall and would like to make a difference to its future. We’re also very happy to help you provide that extra special gift – a gift of membership to Friends of Waddow.

If you're interested in become a Friend of Waddow, please complete an application form or contact us to find out more. We look forward to welcoming you as a Friend of Waddow.

Friends of Waddow Bursary Fund

The Friends of Waddow Bursary is available to Senior Section members (16+) working on Leadership Training and all Adult members of Girlguiding who are in financial need. The recipient should be undertaking a minimum of 2 nights training (Girlguiding or professional body) at Waddow Hall. Unfortunately, we are not able to fund leisure breaks.

The bursary (grant) covers the cost of a shared room at Waddow Hall and is paid direct to Waddow. The recipient should not be in receipt of any other grants.

Application is by a simple, unobtrusive and confidential form (available from Waddow or your Chair of Guiding Development) which should be completed and submitted six weeks prior to the intended training.
